Rank System for Longship Traders and the Bifrost Guard
Skalligrim Ericsson is the Head Trader with Fenris Sais Saionnai his Partner. We are Rus Viking Traders who are based in approx the year 1000 AD and trade goods up and down the Silk Road from Rus to Byzantia. We have a group of mercenaries and followers who guard us and our goods during our travels, the Bifrost Guard. We have overall yea or nay on all group decisions, finalise bookings and do the basic organisation and record keeping of the group. Skalligrim and Fenris also sort out disputes and supervise training of the Guard.
The top camp rank is that of Head Bondi This is a role that is taken at present by Auric and Fos. They oversee all aspects of the main camp and take charge of the main kitchen area living history section.
All members are expected to participate in Living History displays and to develop a trade or skill that can be talked about and demonstrated to the public. These could include: leather working, wood working, sewing and weaving, hunter, skinner, jewellery maker, horn worker, ceramics worker, basket worker, herbalist, priest, healer, bone carving, blacksmith. These are suggestions to get you thinking about a role! Three or four people can easily work together on something like sewing or food preparation so even if someone is already working in an area – there is plenty of room to spread out!
The top fighting rank in the group is that of Group Commander. He will hand down orders from Skalligrim or Fenris and expect to see them carried out with regard to the Warriors. This position is at present occupied by Hjálmarr. He also takes overall charge of the Armoury during shows. Not all members are expected to participate in fighting displays.
Further roles to be developed as the group increases in membership are:
Standard Bearer
Unit Leaders
Bodyguards for the Traders
Authenticity Officer
Bodyguards to the Priest
Associate members are usually trades people who do not attend practise sessions and come to shows to add depth to our living history displays and to sell their goods. Please ask for details of this status in the group.
